It sits below zizzis, you aren't in the wrong place, promise! Just pop through the door and down the stairs.

We booked in advance whilst staying just outside cardiff after seeing it had some pretty excellent reviews.
It was pretty busy, so I'm glad we did!
Good value, and great food, there's a set menu, which is even better value too.

Lamb belly for starter, which was unbelievably gorgeous, and we both had different roasts for mains (it was a sunday, and what I'd heard they're great for, so it would be rude not to), the roasties were properly, fluffy, crispy, non greasy ones, the meat was cooked to perfection, and the gravy was proper stuff.
Everything was presented well, and served by lovely staff. The only issue was that my first lime and soda came out flat, but it was immediately corrected, and a new one was brought back in a matter of minutes.
The puddings looked excellent, but we were just too full!

It's all set in the arches of exposed brick that used to belong to a bank vault, so, you get no phone signal. If you're on a date, or a meeting that you want the option of an emergency escape phone call, this place isn't suitable! Just a heads up!

This restaurant is beautiful! The atmosphere is awesome in an old bank downstairs and a great date spot. Service was right on and friendly and helpful. The food is why it is not 5 stars. The food for such a nice place and price just falls short. The potted pig which we had to try of course was very dry and just not good. However the main meals were good just not amazing. The rarebit, cod and lamb were all excellent meals and we would go back but maybe the dishes need a little less cooking or a little less time under a heat lamp because overall they were all just on the dry side. Make sure you make a reservation as we were there on a Thursday night and walk-ins were being turned away told they were completely booked for the evening!

I came here on a short business trip to Cardiff.  The PP was recommended by my coworkers who live there.  I didn't even order any pig items but what I did order was delicious.   I tried the scallop starter which was good, even thought the scallops were small.  I also tried the sirloin cooked in garlic butter and it was delicious.  They have a good wine selection and a limited craft beer selection so I went with the wine which was good, albeit expensive.

The decor is nice, service very good, and I will be back, this time to try the potted pig.

Honestly torn between 2 or 3 stars. I had a really disappointing experience as from all the rave reviews, I was expected masterful food. Unfortunately, I honestly don't think The Potted Pig is worth its hype.

    ~ Atmosphere:

As other reviewers have stated, the atmosphere is brilliant. It's underground which is one downside as phone signal's poor, but it makes for a terrific ambience. Lit up with candles, it certainly has a charm that would make this location perfect for a date.

    ~ Customer Service:

Again, as other reviewers have noticed, the customer service was good. The food came promptly and the servers were not at all difficult to flag down. Make a reservation online as things get booked ahead way in advance (like a week or two). Don't show up on the fly and expect to get seated.

    ~ Food:

The food itself was 4 stars. The meals were tasty, but nothing out of this world.

STARTER: ham hock terrine, piccalilli & toasted sourdough - £8

This was a very good dish. The ham hock had great flavour and the toasted sourdough accompanying it was perfectly crispy. The piccalilli added just the right amount of kick as well. Great dish.

MAIN: trio of pork (pork cheek, belly, and bacon-wrapped tenderloin with pomme puree and greens) - £24

Unfortunately this dish was hit or miss. The pork cheek and tenderloin were beautifully cooked, but the pork belly was unfortunately quite overcooked and dry. I needed to chase every bite with water in order to wash it down. I also wish there was a bit more sauce on the plate. With so much pork and a lot of pureed potatoes, the small drizzle of sauce was barely enough to hold it together.

    ---

The food was tasty, without a doubt and by itself warrants 4 stars. However, the reason why I dropped it was because the prices were far too high for what it was worth. For £24 a main, I expected to be blown out of this world. However, it was good and that was it. All in all, for 2 people we spent £85 which included starters and non-alcoholic drinks. I felt like I was robbed upon leaving to be honest as you can get food that's equally, or even more tasty for half the price. 2.5 stars, but increasing it to 3 because the food itself was decent. I probably wouldn't be coming back ever again though.

I was looking forward to trying the famous Potted Pig restaurant, and of course chose the first starter as The Potted Pig. Turned out to be then worst dish of the evening.
Main dish was decent sized, but could not finish it, I had wanted to try dessert prior to going, but opted not to due to the meh flavours.
There was also no signal underground, so it was a long wait between courses.
Overall, I would try elsewhere as the price range seems to be a $$$ instead of $$
